خبرگزاری تسنیم وابسته به سپاه پاسداران می‌گوید سفیر بریتانیا در تهران که در محل تجمع معترضان به شلیک موشک سپاه به هواپیمای مسافری حضور یافته بود، بازداشت و پس از چند ساعت آزاد شد.
وزارت خارجه بریتانیا این خبر را تایید کرد. دمنیک راب، وزیر خارجه بریتانیا، تاکید کرده که بازداشت راب مک‌ایر «بدون دلیل و توضیح» بوده و «نقض فاحش قوانین بین المللی» محسوب می‌شود.
در گزارش خبرگزاری تسنیم آمده که سفیر بریتانیا قرار است روز یکشنبه توسط وزارت خارجه ایران «احضار و موضوع پی‌گیری شود».
این خبرگزاری مدعی شده که راب مک‌ایر «در تجمع معترضان حاضر شده و اقدام به سازماندهی و تحریک و هدایت برخی اقدامات رادیکال و ساختارشکنانه کرده بود».
مقامات جمهوری اسلامی همواره اعتراض‌های مردمی در ایران را به کشورهای خارجی از جمله آمریکا و بریتانیا نسبت می‌دهند.
در همین راستا، سخنگوی قوه قضاییه ایران خواستار اخراج سفیر بریتانیا در تهران شد.
غلامحسین اسماعیلی که روز سه‌شنبه، ۲۴ دی، در نشست خبری با خبرنگاران سخن می‌گفت، تجمع مردم تهران به احترام کشته‌شدگان هواپیمای اوکراینی را «غیرقانونی» خواند و گفت حضور سفیر بریتانیا در این مراسم «نقش تحریک‌کننده» داشته است.
او همچنین سفیر بریتانیا را متهم کرد که از این مراسم فیلم و عکس تهیه کرده و اهل «شیطنت و دروغ‌گویی» است.
راب مک‌ایر، سفیر بریتانیا در تهران، شنبه شب به دنبال حضور در مراسمی به مناسبت گرامیداشت جان‌باختگان سرنگونی هواپیما مسافربری، بازداشت و پس از چند ساعت آزاد شد.
آقای مک‌ایر روز یکشنبه ۲۲ دی در توئیتی توضیح داد: «در هیچ تظاهراتی شرکت نکردم! من به مراسم یادبود افرادی که در سانحه ناگوار سقوط هواپیمای ۷۵۲ بودند رفتم.»
با این حال حمله به بریتانیا در ایران از جناحی دیگر نیز ادامه یافت.
محمدجواد ظریف، وزیر خارجه ایران، در یک توییت انتقادی دولت بریتانیا را به «تبعیت طوطی‌وار» از آمریکا و «مشارکت کورکورانه» متهم کرد.

According to The Guardian report: UK foreign secretary calls action against Robert Macaire a ‘flagrant violation’ of international law.
Dominic Raab has warned Iran it risks becoming an international “pariah” after the British ambassador was arrested during anti-government protests in Tehran.
The foreign secretary said the detention of Rob Macaire, without any grounds or explanation, was a “flagrant violation” of international law. He said Tehran was at a crossroads, with the prospect of continuing political and economic isolation unless it engages diplomatically with the west.
Macaire was said to be “safe and well” in the British embassy after he was released after more than an hour in custody. His arrest came as a wave of anti-government demonstrations broke out across the country following the admission Iranian forces had accidentally brought down a Ukrainian airliner killing all 176 people on board.
According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency ( an organisation with links to IRGC or Sepah), as he tried to make his way back to the embassy he was one of the people arrested outside the university on suspicion of organising, provoking and directing radical actions. It is unclear who he was arrested by.
In a statement, Raab said: “The arrest of our ambassador in Tehran without grounds or explanation is a flagrant violation of international law.
Iran judiciary on Tuesday accused the British ambassador in Tehran of violating the country's law and called for his expulsion.
Speaking to reporters at a news conference on Tuesday, Gholamhossein Esmaili called this gathering in Tehran which was in honour of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash, "illegal", and said the presence of the British ambassador had played a "provocative role".
He also accused the British ambassador of filming and photographing the event and of being "mischievous and lying".
Rob Macaire, the British ambassador to Tehran, was arrested and released a few hours later on Saturday night.
"I did not take part in any demonstration," Mr Macaire tweeted on Sunday. "I went to the memorial gathering for the people who were in the tragic crash of 752."
However, the attack on The UK in Iran from another side continued.
In a critical tweet, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the British government of "parroting" the United States and "blind participation."
