بعد از آنکه عیسی مسیح پاهای آنها (شاگردانش) را شست و لباس خود را پوشید، دوباره برگشت و نشست، از آن ها پرسید: «آیا فهمیدید برای شما چه کردم؟شما مرا استاد و خداوند خطاب می کنید و درست هم می گویید زیرا که چنین هستم. پس اگر من که استاد و خداوند شما هستم پاهای شما را شسته ام، شما هم باید پاهای یکدیگر را بشوئید.به شما نمونه ای دادم تا همانطور که من با شما رفتار کردم شما هم رفتار کنید.به یقین بدانید که هیچ خدمتکاری از ارباب خود و هیچ قاصدی از فرستندۀ خویش بزرگتر نیست. هرگاه این را فهمیدید، برکت بر شما و خوشا به حال شما اگر به آن عمل نمائید. (یوحنا باب ۱۳ از ۱۲ تا ۱۷)
عیسی مسیح در مورد ایمان صحبت می کرد ، این بدان معناست که Ego یا هویت انسانی باید از خدا اطاعت کند و این به معنای کنار گذاشتن وابستگی ها و خودخواهی ها است. بنابراین ، فروتن بودن در مسیحیت بسیار مهم است و این یکی از چیزهایی است که من در مسیحیت آن را بسیار دوست دارم.
"هنگامی که غرور می آید ، پس از آن رسوایی می آید ، اما حکمت با فروتنان است." (امثال سلیمان ۱۱:۲)
زیرا وقتی احساس وحدت وجود در بدن مسیح می کنید ، دیگران را به عنوان اعضای مختلف یک بدن و بدن خودتان می بینید و همزمان احساس فروتنی ، عشق ، تعادل ، قدرت ، اعتماد به نفس و عزت نفس و جاودانگی می کنید. در این صورت ، شما می توانید مسیح و روح الهی را در افراد دیگر ، پنهان در پشت سر منیت و هویت انسانی آنها، مشاهده کنید ، و می بینید که دیگران به اندازه شما ارزشمند هستند ، آفریده های خدا ، واین موضوع شما را فروتن می کند و بنابراین باید آنها را دوست داشته باشید همانطور که خودتان را دوست دارید. شما همه اعضای مختلف یک بدن ، بدن مسیح هستید! بارها وقتی عیسی شخصی را شفا میداد به آنها گفت: "ایمان شما شما را شفا داد یا نجات داد". وقتی عیسی ما را نجات داد ، ما را از چشم خودش به شکل بدن خودش میدید و او ما را شخص دیگری به جز خودش نمی دانست! این بدن مسیح و یگانگی است که تحت محبت خداوند متعال است. از نظر Ego یا همان فکر محدود انسانی، فروتن بودن و عزت نفس با هم متناقض هستند اما در حقیقت آنها یک چیز هستند! هرچه در مسیح رشد کنیم ، فروتن تر ، کم قضاوت تر و با محبتتر میشویم! ما نمی توانیم وضعیت دیگران را کاملا مثل خودشان درک کنیم زیرا در جای آنها نیستیم. بعضی اوقات ، حتی نمی توانید جهنمی را که بعضی از مردم پشت سر گذاشته اند تصور کنید! پس بگذارید قضاوت نکنیم و عشق ورزیدن را شروع کنیم! اگر ما می خواهیم مسیح ، این اتحاد با خدا ، مسیح و روح القدوس ، این ذات مشترک همه ما را درک کنیم ، فکر می کنم لازم است درک کنیم که شما نه از هیچکس حقیرتر و نه از هیچ کسی برتر هستید.
عیسی مسیح به ما یاد داد تا اولا خدا را در اولویت دوست بداریم و ثانیا دیگران را قضاوت نکنیم بلکه دیگران را مانند خود دوست بداریم عیسی به ما یاد داد که این دو اصل و دستور خلاصه ی تعلیمات تمام پیامبران خدا بوده است. در عمل به دستور اول، زمانی که خدا را بیشتر از هر چیز دیگری دوست داریم، دیگر نیازی به جلب توجه دیگران نداریم و اعتماد به نفس و عزت نفس را در مسیح و خدا بودن پیدا خواهیم کرد. و در انجام و عمل به دستور دوم، زمانی که دیگران را به اندازه ی خود دوست داریم، در برابر آنها فروتن خواهیم شد و آنها را قضاوت نخواهیم کرد بلکه آنها را دوست خواهیم داشت.
معنی نماد صلیب نیز همین است:
خط عمودی صلیب به معنای نماد عشق به خدا و عشق خدا است. (باعث عزت نفس و عشق در خدا و مسیح میشود)
خط افقی صلیب به معنای نماد دوست داشتن دیگران مانند خودمان است. (باعث فروتنی و عشق به دیگران میشود)

Being Humble and having Self-esteem and trust in God at the same time:
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them (John 13:12-17)
Jesus Christ was talking about Faith which means that Ego must obey God and it means letting go of attachments, and selfishness. Therefore, being humble is very important in Christianity and that is another thing that I really love in Christianity.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2)
Because when you feel Unity in the body of Christ, you see others as different parts of one body and you would feel humility, love, balance, strength, confidence, and self-esteem, and immortality at the same time. In that case, you can see Christ and the Spirit in other people too, behind their Ego, and you can see others are as valuable as you, creations of God, and it makes you humble and you should love them as you love yourself because you are all different parts of one body, the Body of Christ! Many times when Jesus healed someone told them: "your faith healed or saved you". When Jesus saved us, he saw us as his own body and not someone else! This is the body of Christ and Oneness under almighty God's love. In the eyes of the Ego, being humble and having self-esteem is contradictory but in fact, they are the same thing! As much as we grow in Christ, we became more humble and less judging and more loving! We cannot understand others' situation totally because we are not in their shoes. Sometimes, you cannot even imagine the hell that some people have been through! So let us stop judging and start loving! If we want to understand Christ, This Unity with God, Christ and The Holy Spirit, This essence of all of us, I think it is necessary to understand that you are neither inferior nor superior to anyone.
Jesus Christ taught us to first love God as our priority and secondly, we should not judge others but love others as ourselves. Jesus taught us that on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. In practising the first commandment, when we love God more than anything else, we would no longer need to attract the attention of others, and we will find confidence and self-esteem and peace in being in Christ and God. And in doing the second commandment, when we love others as much as ourselves, we will be humble towards them and will not judge them but love them.
This is also the meaning of the symbol of the cross:
The vertical line of the cross symbolizes the love of God, love for God. (causes having Self-esteem and love in God and Christ)
The horizontal line of the cross symbolizes loving others like ourselves. (causes humbleness and love for others)
